an easter surprise

Volker Kraft hung 10,000 colored eggs in his apple tree this week in Saalfeld, Germany.

Ours was on a much smaller scale, but they were still happy : )

a bunny bag and easter treats

We're going away for a long overdue break at Easter and will be sharing a holiday house with 5 other adults and our 6 kids. We've organised an Easter egg hunt for Sunday so I made these bags for the children- I think they'll appreciate them. I also plan to put bunny foot prints on the lawn (with a stencil and talcum powder) and make bunny and chick shaped pancakes for breakfast. I'll have just as much fun with it as they will and hope my efforts will be rewarded with a creme egg- or maybe even two? :)

 

At Easter it's been a tradition for us to give a little treat to M and T's pre school friends. This year M will make a little treat for each of her classmates. Last year T's preschool room were very sweet and let him hide the eggs in the playground for his buddies to find. Here's his story in his profile book

This year we used up some mini envelopes I had. My mum gave the kids an Easter stamp set I've had aside and I bought some stickers and mini eggs. I also bought some $1.50 gift bags but think we'll use T's red bunny basket as it's so much cuter.

With Easter coming up I thought it might be nice for the children to treat their pre school friends with a little surprise each. I found the plastic eggs last year in an after Easter sale at Spotlight for $2 and the blue basket for $1. We got the big bag of chocolate mini eggs in the groceries and the little squares of note paper at the 123 shop. They loved opening each plastic egg and putting a chocolate inside. M wanted to add a little message but the boy wasn't as keen- fine with me as I had to write most of them out! You might notice that a lot of what we 'do' happens at that brown square table. I got it for $80 on trade me with the chairs and it's the best thing ever. Because it's not new or expensive I feel like we can really live on it and it comes up well with a bit of wood polish in between thrashings!

easter egg bunnies

Our poor wee girl got 5 stitches in her head yesterday after she fell onto the fire hearth so we've had a restful day today with a play date here in the morning and some craft things in the afternoon. I saw this on one of my internet wanders and adapted it. It was one of those great activities that provided some little challenges ( using sewing pins) but that they could also do with very little help from me. I cut the bits and showed them how to push the pins in. When they were finished I added a bit of glue here and there. We plan to put them in nice bags with some chocolates and give them away ( to grown ups of course) at Easter. They're funny aren't they, I like the last picture of the wonky eyed one the boy made- it looks a little bit like how I feel today!

waaaay back in Easter

The year has gone by so fast, here's some things I made for the kids for Easter. I thought I'd share because they were so easy peesy to make and came together really quickly- that's one of the fun tings about working with felt. I based the mushroom idea on similar ones I'd seen on the web and the rabbits were modeled on a character in one of Thomas's books. I enjoyed seeing their wee faces when they opened them Easter morning but next year I'll make a note to wrap homemade things separately from any chocolate- their attention was soon off the toys and on to how to get the wrappers off their chocolate eggs!
